Cory's Ride Empowering Students One Pedal at a Time
At the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, we often witness inspiring stories through Cory’s Ride, our student “earn-a-bike” program. Not only does Cory’s Ride provide young people with bicycles, but it also empowers students in ways we never imagined.
One unique aspect of the program is how it’s helping some older high school students who never had the opportunity to learn to ride a bike when they were younger.
It’s truly inspiring to see these students, many in their late teens, approach learning to ride with remarkable courage and resilience. Stepping into a new skill at this age, especially one that most of their peers have already mastered, requires a willingness to be vulnerable—to embrace looking like a beginner in front of others. But that’s what Cory’s Ride is all about: creating a supportive environment that elevates every student, wherever they are in their journey.
Seeing these students pedal for the first time, wobbling yet determined, reminds us why Cory’s Ride exists. It’s about more than just bikes; it’s about uplifting youth, building confidence, and opening new doors to independence. In their journey to mastering biking, they teach us all the power of resilience and the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels supported to grow.
