Heavy Rains Postpone First Two Trail Day Plans

Attention Trail Stewards & Volunteers:

Fall 2016 Trail Days – Join us as we fix an old one, open a new one & get a preview!

UPDATE – Recent Rains Have Caused RESCHEDULING of Olema Valley Trail and Boulder Springs Trailwork
We will still need volunteers for three upcoming trail days. Please sign up and we will alert you when these are rescheduled.
Though we had scheduled the first day for this weekend, recent heavy rains have caused a rescheduling for planned Trail Days.  According to the Land and Project Managers, the trail and surrounding areas need to dry out before work can be accomplished.
Though we had planned to start with the Olema Valley Trail in Point Reyes National Seashore, this will be rescheduled. The following week, we were going to put the finishing touches on the Boulder Spring Trail (Land Bridge) in the Giacomini Open Space Preserve.
Still scheduled, but subject to a new date if the Land Managers feel it is appropriate, on Saturday, November 12, you’ll have a chance to be part of the progress – and get an advance preview – on Bill’s Trail in Samuel P. Taylor Park.

Trail Days are a great time to give back to the resources we all enjoy and make them better for future generations.

Olema Valley Trail – TO BE RESCHEDULED!

As official stewards of this trail, MCBC is beginning a multi-year process to restore and enhance one of the few bike legal trails in the park.  Join MCBC on a date to be determined as we begin the to rehab the Olema Valley Trail in Point Reyes National Seashore. When conditions permit, we will be repairing a steep, eroded section of long-neglected trail. Tools will be supplied as well as gloves. Wear durable pants, shirt and work boots. Eyewear is also suggested. Lunch will be served following trail work. Please pre-register so we can let you know when the date is set. Thanks!

20160926_173031-1Boulder Springs Trail – TO BE RESCHEDULED!
Help finish off recent work on Boulder Springs Trail in Gary Giacomini Preserve in San Geronimo Valley. SG Valley locals know this trail as Land Bridge, it has been referred to as Vista Hamaca on some trail documents but the new name relates to a giant boulder just off the side of the trail and a natural freshwater spring that flows from beneath it.
The trail is almost complete but we still need to remove brush in the trail corridor, brace the outsloped edges, install drain rock in a muddy section and make a land ramp to bypass a narrow section of trail. We will use hand tools which require a fair amount of strength and stamina, and work on uneven terrain. The work is recommended for people ages 12 and older with a moderate to high level of fitness. We provide lunch, snacks, drinks, water, tools, extra gloves, and training! Dress in layers you can get dirty, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a water bottle. Please pre-register so let you know as soon as a new date is set. Thanks!

Bill’s Trail  – Saturday, November 12 – TENTATIVE – Please sign up for latest updates

Bill’s Trail is an amazing 4-mile trail connecting Devil’s Gulch with the top of Mt. Barnaby at Samuel P. Taylor State Park. It traverses through a forest of Douglas firs, Swordferns, and Redwood trees.The trail was originally open to hikers only. But now, thanks to a change-in-use decision, the trail will become a multi-use trail open to hikers, bikers and equestrians in the near future. Thanks to all those who helped support this effort so far!

Now, volunteers are encouraged to come help move the project forward. This Trail Day on Bill’s Trail provides an opportunity to preview the trail – which is currently closed to all users
Activities will include trail brushing, trailside invasive vegetation removal, hauling fill material to a geotextile fabric wall, and construction of a geo fabric wall (burrito wall)
Please pre-register so we can get an accurate count – we will confirm this date beforehand. Thanks!
