Memorial Rides Planned to Honor Alex Pretti

Alex Pretti

Cycling communities across the country are gathering this weekend for memorial rides honoring Alex Pretti, a beloved member of Minnesota’s bicycling community who was killed by federal agents last weekend.

Well known among riders and advocates, Alex’s death has sparked grief and reflection throughout the cycling world. Bicycle Retailer and Industry News published an article highlighting reactions from local bike industry leaders and community members.

Alex’s local bike shop, Angry Catfish, is hosting a memorial ride in Minneapolis this Saturday. The shop is also encouraging riders nationwide to honor his life by organizing or joining their own local rides; use Ride with GPS and Bikepacking.com’s shared map to find events happening nearby. In the Bay Area, rides are planned in San Francisco, Oakland and Redwood City. Marin Cyclists is also hosting a ride from Fairfax to Pt. Reyes Station; register for this free road ride on their website. There are also rides organized in Nevada City, Salinas, San Jose, Santa Rosa and Sacramento.

The page also includes a printable flyer and a request that participants tag Angry Catfish on Instagram to show solidarity.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has reached out to us to share their sorrow and anger over Alex’s death. These rides are a powerful reminder of our collective strength and compassion as we support each other in our grief and continue pushing forward in  pursuit of change.
