Nearly 30 Miles Under Review: Advancing Bike Access in the Watershed

After setbacks, planning advances with significant trail mileage under consideration for bike access

At the December ’25 Watershed Committee meeting, Marin Water staff and consultants shared a summary of public input from their Community Open House, along with an update on next steps for the Road and Trail Management Plan Update. The message from the community was clear: people care deeply about stewardship of the mountain and want to see meaningful restoration, better trail connectivity, and improved visitor experiences, alongside expanded multiuse and singletrack trail access.

The trails included for initial assessment represents a significant opportunity, identifying nearly 30 miles of trails and fire roads being considered for expanded bicycle access and road-to-trail conversions. This scope reflects years of advocacy and growing public support for a more inclusive, sustainable trail system that serves a wider range of users.

The progress outlined at this meeting is encouraging and underscores the importance of continued public engagement and consistent advocacy to ensure this effort moves forward.

Site visits with Marin Water staff are planned for January 31, Feb. 27 and April 11.

Showing up and staying engaged remains critical as this process continues and decisions that shape the future of access in the watershed take form.
