MMB 2018 Speaker Series Downieville: Evolution of a Trail Community with Greg Williams
Downieville: Evolution of a Trail Community, an evening with Greg Williams
Thursday, February 1 at the Marin Museum of Bicycling
What started in the early 1990’s as a fledgling bicycle guide and shuttle service for exploring the historic Gold Rush trails of the Lost Sierra, has evolved into the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS). SBTS is a non-profit organization focused on creating jobs and multi-use trails, to revitalize economically depressed communities in Sierra and Plumas Counties.
Greg will tell the colorful stories of his ancestral Lost Sierra roots, and how his bike shop Yuba Expeditions and the Downieville Classic – which he founded – gave birth to SBTS. He’ll tell about the partnerships and trail projects they’re currently working on.
These days the popular cycling events the Downieville Classic, the Grinduro and the Lost & Found, all help raise funds for SBTS. They’re dreaming big for the future, focused on being a national model for economically vibrant mountain communities. Digging dirt together has built more than just trails; it’s built a strong Tribe determined to keep the mountain way of living alive, and everyone is invited.
Tickets are $10 per adult ($5 for students and Marin Museum of Bicycling members). Tickets can be purchased in advance at the museum (11-5 Thursdays-Sundays), online and at the door the evening of the event unless the event is sold out.
Advanced purchase is highly recommended as this event is expected to sell out! All proceeds benefit the Marin Museum of Bicycling.
