news MCBC Member Efforts Pay Off! AB40 Signed!
No tolls on state bridges for the next 5 years!
Marin Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael, and Assemblyman Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, introduced AB 40 earlier this year. This legislation will “prohibit the district from fixing or collecting any tolls or access fees for pedestrian and bicyclist use of the Golden Gate Bridge sidewalks” in addition to other measures.
Expanded to make it applicable to all state bridges, the bill was modified again to cap it at five years, meaning a toll plan could come back after that time. It then was approved by the Legislature.
“Passage of AB 40 means that cycling and walking across the Bay Area’s iconic bridges will remain free and continue to be encouraged for the next five years. This is a multi-party success that we can all celebrate. Thank you to Assemblymembers Marc Levine and Phil Ting for their leadership on AB 40, and to Governor Brown for signing the bill.” said Jim Elias, Executive Director for MCBC.
It’s encouraging to see the efforts of working with Levine’s office to get this legislation passed. A big thanks to every MCBC member who took the time to sign and forward petitions on this topic over the past few months. Your efforts helped get this signed!
