Education and Encouragement

Here are some of the amazing projects brought to you by MCBC’s Education and Encouragement Program:

Safe Routes to Schools MARIN

The Safe Routes to Schools Program improves the quality of life for entire school communities through education, encouragement and infrastructure improvements. Safe Routes to Schools Marin is a program of the Transportation Authority of Marin. Safe Routes teaches cycling skills, promotes healthy lifestyles, and champions green transportation to students in elementary, middle, and high school. Marin County pioneered the national Safe Routes to Schools program that has spread across the U.S. and is in all 50 states today.

Cory’s Ride

Cory’s Ride program brings the benefits of bicycling to as many Marin students as possible, particularly those who could not otherwise afford the chance, by providing bikes and traffic safety education. Started in 2020 in memory of Cory Leonoudakis, Cory’s Ride is making the health and mobility benefits of cycling a basic right, not just a privilege, for children in our county.

Family Biking

Family Biking classes are taught by League of American Cyclists certified instructors. Classes cover topics like basic bike skills, rules of the road, effective communication, and proper equipment. All drills and riding instruction take place away from traffic and streets. We set up courses in a controlled environment so that new riders can focus on handling their bicycle and developing these needed skills. We offer classes in-person and online.
