One Tam last week released three proposals to elevate and/or relocate the Mill Valley-Sausalito Pathway to address its vulnerability to flooding and sea level rise–and now they want to hear from you on the popular pathway’s future!
The City of San Rafael recently approved a two-way protected bikeway between Rice Drive and 2nd Street, meaning people of all ages and abilities will soon be able to enjoy a completely car-free route between Downtown San Rafael and Larkspur Ferry Terminal!
After lengthy delays tied to permitting, a widened multi-use pathway over Corte Madera Creek (along the northbound 101 off-ramp between Redwood Highway and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Larkspur) is expected to begin construction this Fall and will be complete in Summer/Fall 2021.
With reduced traffic on the roads and kids out of school and other activities, now is a great time to ride with your children and teach them proper bike riding safety and etiquette. Below, we’re highlighting some of our favorite family-friendly routes around Marin.
MCBC’s Road Program works to make bicycling safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities by improving the safety and connectivity of Marin’s bike routes. For 2019, we’ve put together an exciting and diverse list of projects, ranging from near-term fixes to efforts that will require several years of advocacy.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Marin County Bicycle Coalition has the ability to take positions on ballot measures. After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision not to endorse Measure I, which would extend Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit’s (SMART) 1/4-cent sales tax for 30 years. We remain highly supportive of the SMART rail and pathway project, but were disappointed by the agency’s refusal to commit savings resulting from the passage of Measure I toward the pathway. We are hopeful that SMART will address our concerns and work to complete the pathway in a timely fashion as promised to voters in 2008.
This October, Marin County Bicycle Coalition joined 32 organizations sent a letter outlining a transformational regional strategy for active transportation and micromobility to decision makers throughout the Bay Area. Over the past several months, hundreds of organizations, businesses, and individuals came together to develop this road map for investment.
This Wednesday, SMART’s Board of Directors are likely to approve a March 2020 ballot measure to extend the agency’s 1/4-cent sales tax, along with the associated spending plan. The plan includes no guaranteed funding for the bicycle and pedestrian pathway, and even removes language from the last plan that required SMART to prioritize additional funding for the pathway. Join us today in calling on SMART’s Directors for their leadership on the pathway.
At long last, the bike improvements associated with the Marin-Sonoma Narrows Project are complete. This Friday, Caltrans will officially open a new pathway underneath the US-101 / San Antonio Creek Bridge connecting frontage roads between Novato and Petaluma and establishing what will now be the most direct, flat, and safe route available between the two cities!
Following years of persistent advocacy and collaboration with Marin agencies, Marin County Bicycle Coalition was delighted to take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 16 for the newest linkage in our North-South Greenway: a pathway from Rice Drive to Andersen Drive in San Rafael!
MCBC is delighted to share the news: Marin’s next pathway–bridging the southern half of the gap between Downtown San Rafael and Cal Park Hill–is set to open the week of July 15!
