On February 9, a group of 25 volunteers braved the cold, wet weather for the rare opportunity to build fresh trail–and what will be the first bike-legal trail in Mt. Burdell Open Space Preserve. If you missed out, don’t fret; we’re heading out again on March 9!
MCBC’s Trail Stewards Program is pleased to support Marin County Open Space District’s construction and adoption of Eagle Rim Trail on Mount Burdell. The social trail starts near the top of the mountain, follows a fence line west and then drops down onto Deer Camp Fire Road. The current alignment onto the fire road is steep and erosive, so we’re assisting efforts to build a more gradual descent that will add to the overall distance. A technical rock segment and low hanging oak branch will remain to give the trail some character.
Once work is completed on the exit, and the new work has had time to harden, the trail will open to hikers and bikers and create a new bike loop option on Mt. Burdell!
