The cycling community was horrified upon learning that Novato resident Aaron Paff drove his truck into four Jensie Gran Fondo participants on Saturday, October 7. His actions sent four men to the hospital. Paff fled the scene of the crash.
Paff did more than injure four cyclists; he also traumatized their children, wives, parents and extended families. He deeply affected those who rode by the crash scene afterwards, wondering why and how that could have happened. He saddened and outraged the broader cycling community, extending well beyond Marin County.
49-year-old Mill Valley resident Spencer Fast was life-lifted from the crash scene in critical condition. At the hospital, he learned that he risked losing sight in his right eye. Thankfully, he has been released from the hospital and is showing improvement.
Paff was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges, based on a video provided by a motorcyclist who happened to be passing by.
Since MCBC sent Friday’s email calling for witnesses to the crash, or to other dangerous or aggressive driving actions by Paff, we have heard from several of you. And so has the CHP. Those reports are increasingly telling a story of senseless road rage.
This case is still under active investigation.
