Who We Are Welcome Liz Bernstein to MCBC Staff

We are delighted to have Liz Bernstein join MCBC as our new Individual Giving Director. Liz is passionate about all that cycling has to offer, whether it’s commuting to work, exploring a new place by bike, or riding the trails of Mt. Tam.

Welcome Liz Bernstein to MCBC Staff

Liz joined MCBC in 2020 as a volunteer on our Major Donor Committee. She now serves as our Director of Individual Giving responsible for working with our Spoke Donors and fundraising to help MCBC implement the campaigns we are passionate about.

An avid cyclist, Liz has ridden her bike in various states and countries. Before joining MCBC Liz worked in the cycling and fundraising industry organizing charity bike rides in Marin County for over 15 years. You will find her most often on a road bike but she likes to hit the trails as well. If she isn’t on the trails on a bike, she is out running them, as she is a trail runner as well.

Liz spent the last 17 years commuting via bike, whether when she lived in Sonoma County, SF County, or Marin over the previous 10 years commuting to SF. She is excited to be working in Marin County and you will often see her on one of her bikes. We are thrilled to have Liz join the team! We asked her to tell us a little more about herself and why she rides!

What kind of bicycle(s) do you ride?

I have a few! The bike I ride the most often is my Cannondale Evo. I love it. I also have a Fuji SL1.1 road bike which is great for the electronic shifting, Fuji TT bike and a Fuji commuter bike, a custom built Zahn road bike, and a Breezer Mountain Bike.

What do you like best about riding?

The friends I have made in the cycling community.

What do you like best about the benefits of riding your bike?

All the places I can easily get to and see that would not have happened if I were in a car. I love the health benefits as well.

What would you have liked someone to tell you when you started?

How important it is to get your bikes tuned up on a regular basis to avoid large expenses on repairs.

Where is your favorite place to ride your bike?

I started becoming a cyclist when I lived in Sonoma County. While the roads are often a bit beat up, I love riding in Wine Country.

What is your favorite ride/route in Marin County?

I am not an experienced dirt cyclist but I love the trails of Mt Tam. I enjoy riding Mt Tam and the Alpine Dam loop.

What part of riding would you most like to improve?

I would love to see people be more respectful on the bike. We have to abide by the rules of the road and often cyclists don’t, so it gives us a bad rap. I would like to continue to see people from all avenues of life be on a bike more often to get cars off the road.

What is your vision of bicycling in the future?

It would be great if we could be more like some of the cities in Europe in regards to people getting on bikes as well as the roads cater to bikes more than cars.

Welcome to MCBC Liz!
