Following years of persistent advocacy and collaboration with Marin agencies, Marin County Bicycle Coalition was delighted to take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 16 for the newest linkage in our North-South Greenway: a pathway from Rice Drive to Andersen Drive in San Rafael!
Marin voters rejected an attempt to reopen San Geronimo Valley Golf Course, clearing the path to continue planning for the the 157-acre property’s future as public land!
Plans for the 157-acre parcel in the heart of the San Geronimo Valley include a safe route for school children between Woodacre and Lagunitas School, restoration of the land, enhanced fire safety and better connectivity between four existing open space preserves – Roy’s Redwoods, French Ranch, Maurice Thorner, and Giacomini. Additionally, the many miles of mostly flat pathways and trails make this a potential prime destination for families and people new to biking and outdoor recreational opportunities of all kinds.
Two-and-a-half weeks since San Geronimo resident and Dixie Elementary teacher Debra DiBenedetto was hit and killed while bicycling on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near Woodacre, we have little to report, pending toxicology results.
When you ride Highway 1 between Panoramic and Olema, you’ll notice several brand new signs indicating cyclists’ rights to the roadway. The signs were installed at MCBC’s request to expand a larger Caltrans project originally intended to address vehicular safety only.
With safety at the forefront of MCBC’s mission, we are proud to be the eyes and ears of the 2018 Jensie Gran Fondo of Marin – providing Course Marshal support on Saturday, September 29th – to cover all shifts, we need volunteers throughout the day to act as course marshals.
“As I sat with Spencer Fast – one of four victims of last October’s hit-and-run crime – and his family in the Courtroom on the afternoon of July 2, waiting for Aaron Paff to be delivered from the Marin County Jail, I recalled arriving at the scene of the crime which forever changed the lives of four families…”
This Monday, July 2, at 1:30 PM, Aaron Paff will face sentencing, following his guilty plea. I will be attending the hearing in Marin Superior Courtroom F and invite you to join me.
Marin’s celebrated road rides are much more enjoyable without conflicts with motorists. Together with Caltrans, MCBC is taking steps toward making travel along Shoreline Highway safer and more intuitive for all.
