What’s On Tap at Biketoberfest 2016

The only problem with the annual Biketoberfest Marin fall celebration of Bikes & Brews is that there’s almost too much to see and do! We’re looking forward to an amazing turnout of MCBC members, cycling enthusiasts, friends and families – it all starts this Saturday, October 15 at 11 AM in Fairfax!

COST: FREE Admission; Brewfest Tasting – $35 advance, $40 day-of-event.

Now that we’ve covered the basics, here are some suggestions for how to plan your day so you don’t miss any moment of Biketoberfest!

Start Your Day With an Invigorating Ride

 All rides are free and include a goodie bag at the end of the ride. All we ask is that you consider joining MCBC!

Road Loop:

Join us on a modest 32 mile road ride to Platform Bridge and back with 1,600 ft in elevation.

Leaves from Java Hut at 9 AM.

MTB Loop:

Intermediate/Advanced riders rolling up to Tamarancho Trails, with an option to vector down the Flow Trail.

Ride the best single-track loop in Marin (or the Bay Area for that matter!) Ride up Iron Springs Road (the street the Pub is named after) and do a clockwise loop, with plans to check out the new reroute on Old Railroad Grade. This ride includes narrow single-track, which requires navigating rocky sections.

Liv Chix-led MTB Ride:

Join MTB-ambassadors Liv Chix on a women-led mountain bike rides. Both rides are co-ed and open to anyone interested in getting a little dirt on their tires.

Both Liv Chix rides leave from Java Hut at 9:30 AM.

Option 1 – Jamie Shreeve ride leader – Brisk no-drop lap of Tamarancho. Approx 12 miles

Option 2 – Karen Rehder ride leader. Gentle no-drop ride up to 4 Corners, then up and around Lake Lagunitas.

Biketoberfest Expo Opens at 11 AM – Amazing Array of Exhibitors

More than 60 different exhibitors will be on hand in the Biketoberfest Bike Expo – as you rub shoulders with the legendary bike designers and founders of the sport, you can check out the accessories and apparel! This is a great chance to pick up hard-to-find gifts and gear – we’ll have the new MCBC jerseys at our booth, and you can grab unique cycling t-shirts from UniqueFitz, Mt Tam Apparel, Read & Mez, SF Casual Cyclist Clothing, Funkier Bike and a whole lot more!.

Bike Demo opportunities

2016 seems to be the year of the ebike – you can roll out on models from ESPIN, Fantic and Yuba, while The New Wheel will have many models to check out as well!

Kid-Friendly Events

Bike Carousel:

Another crowd and family favorite from last year – Listen for the announcement! A kid-friendly ride in a big circle with music. Riders will gather near the Java Hut – this is a BYOB (Bring your own Bike!) event.

Course hosted by Marin Safe Routes to Schools. Balance Bikes will be available! 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Great Music Starts at Noon

Biketoberfest always has a dynamic lineup of bands helping to get your feet and body moving at this annual fall celebration of Bikes & Brew. Though you’ll need a drink ticket to sample the variety of over 35 brews from 20 west coast brewers, the music and bike expo are free! Ride to Fairfax on Saturday, October 15 and join the in the fun!

Soul Ska – 3:30 PM

Headlining the music stage at 3:30 PM, this high-energy, nine-piece Bay Area collective has been dedicated to furthering the tradition of classic Jamaican/UK ska. Formed in 2014, Soul Ska has garnered wide praise for their contemporary take on ska, rocksteady and roots reggae/dub. Featuring members of Monophonics, Vinyl, Albino!, El Radio Fantastique, The Right Time, Stymie & the PJLO and Jethro Jeremiah Band.

Tony is the founder and owner of Lagunitas Brewing Company, but if you’ve seen him on stage, you know he plays a mean guitar! Tony will be joined onstage by Danny Montana, who brings his love of REAL country music, western swing, Americana and more. Together, they’ll get your boots moving!

Music kicks off at high noon with this talented funk-rock band! Lead singer/guitarist Sergei, Kenny Blackman on drums, Sebastian Link on bass & vocals and Lynn Bryant on keyboards will get the crowd grooving with an excellent mix of funk classics and originals.
