ACCOMPLISHMENTS –
New 680 Trail: Multi-use trail connecting Loma Alta and Terra Linda-Sleepy Hollow Preserves (provided volunteer labor, promotion, support). Opened in May 2012.
Helped Pass Measure A: Official endorsement, extensive support and detailed recommendations for successful November 2012 Marin County ballot measure. The dollars will be used to implement new trail projects when the RTMP is adopted.
Marin County Parks’ Road and Trail Management Plan (RTMP): Marin County Parks is developing its first comprehensive Road and Trail Management Plan (RTMP) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to direct future use and management of roads and trails on the MCOSD’s 34 preserves. MCBC has a leading role in the RTMP planning process.
California State Parks’ Road and Trail Change-in-Use Process: Support for State Parks’ Draft Programmatic Enviromental Impact Report (PEIR) on road and trail conversions, trail use changes, and other recreational and environmental modifications.
China Camp State Park: Support for and partnership with Friends of China Camp’s successful community effort to prevent park closure and improve park management.
Tails and Tires Workshops: Partnership with Marin Horse Council to teach bicyclists and equestrians safe trail encounter techniques.
PROJECTS –
Bill’s Trail: Support for State Parks’ Final EIR and decision to open trail in Samuel P. Taylor State Park to bikes.
Dias Ridge Trail Phase II & III: Support for connector trails, a) between Golden Gate Dairy and Redwood Creek Trail and b) between Coast View Trail and Dias Phase II.
Azelea Hill connector project: Support gap closing solution on Azalea Hill (MMWD) to provide safe connectivity from the Mt. Tamalpais watershed to the Pine Mountain area. (Now a part of the MCBC 3 Gaps Initiative)
Stafford Lake Bike Park: Fund-raising and planning support for proposed off-road bike skills and jumps park on County parkland near Novato.
OTHER WORK & EVENTS –
Dirt Fondo: Highlighting Marin’s bike legal trail network and building trust with land managers by organizing Dirt Fondo off-road ride series at Marin Headlands, Mt. Tam and Marin County Open Space Preserves.
Volunteer Events: Promote trail and habitat volunteer work days for County Parks, MMWD and State Parks.
Turkey Day Appetite Ride: Support for temporary
re-routing to avoid steelhead habitat in Cascade Canyon, with proposed future access improvements for bikes.
Trails and Roads Access Data: Compiled trail statistics for bike access on Marin public lands to help in the development of a County wide bike legal trail network.
Bicycle Trail Network Vision: Creating a vision of a complete and diverse system of fire roads, multi-use and narrow/single-track trails and related mountain bike facilities.
