Trail Days Marathon Continues! MCBC Volunteers Tuning Trails Throughout Marin
In the wake of one of the most destructive winters of our lifetime MCBC’s Off-Road Program launched an initiative to ramp up volunteer trail work throughout Marin. Landslides and other erosion caused damage which closed roads and trails across the county. Shoreline Trail at China Camp is still impassable and much of Marin’s trails have excessive rutting and vegetation overgrowth as a result of non-stop rain last winter.
MCBC VOLUNTEERS TO THE RESCUE!
In the past weeks, MCBC volunteers joined forces with GGNRA and Marin County Parks on two trail day projects, while trail volunteers have been conducting impromptu repairs as needed.
Busting Broom on Bob Middagh Trail
Earlier this month, a small, but strong team of volunteers from MCBC and Horse Hill pulled broom along Bob Middagh Trail as an advance task before work crews reroute the trail to make it safe for multi-use. Constructing a new trail segment can spread non-invasive plants, such as broom. This effort helped reduce the chance of that happening at this site. 
Big Efforts Revitalize Dias Ridge Trail
Twenty volunteers and NPS staff members worked on four projects on the Dias Ridge Trail on June 10, including fixing a switchback, re-grading a section of trail, brushing vegetation and cleaning drainage features. A big thank you to MCBC volunteers, as well as volunteers from the Ocean Riders and Bay Area Barns and Trails, who contributed 80 hours of service on the popular multi-use trail! The Portuguese Cultural Center has reached out about supporting the next volunteer day on Dias Ridge Trail, as the trail is named for a Portuguese family that operated a successful dairy ranch in the area.

Impromptu Work To Fix the Little Things
In addition to planned trail days, many volunteers are taking it upon themselves to preform maintenance tasks, such as re-stenciling safety messages on Iron Spring Road near Camp Tamarancho and fixing rutted trails. And work crews from Open Space, State Parks, GGNRA and MMWD are hard at work getting roads and trail open too! Thanks to all those who give their time to care for the trail we love to ride!

Saturday, June 24 – Shoreline Trail 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
We received word today that Friends of China Camp is in need for 3 to 4 able bodied volunteers for some heavy lifting on the Shoreline Trail this Saturday. Volunteers need to arrive at the Group Campground parking lot at 9:00 am for administrative reasons and for the lunch head count. Bring plenty of water, prepare for sun (hat/sunscreen), dress in long pants and long sleeves (poison oak hazard) and bring work gloves if they have them. Saturday, July 22 – Olema Valley Trail Day
Olema Valley Trail is one of the few multi-use trails in the Point Reyes National Seashore and it’s been neglected for too long! Join MCBC as we begin the long journey to rehab the Olema Valley trail. We will be repairing a steep eroded section of trail. Tools will be supplied as well as gloves. Wear durable pants, shirt and work boots. Eyewear is also suggested. Lunch will be served following trail work.
