All five open now after seasonal closures! New trails come on line in 2017!
The Marin County Open Space District trail crews have completed work on five new trails designated for bike use, include the Valle Vista Trail and Octopus Trail in Mill Valley and Contour Trail, Candalero Canyon Trail and Boulder Springs Trail in the San Geronimo Valley. Combined these projects expand bike-legal trail access by 3.4 miles.
Additionally, “the Plunge” on Old Railroad Grade Trail in Fairfax was rerouted and a bridge was installed to enhance the multi-use trail.
Signs marking the new trails and their uses were recently installed and can now be enjoyed!
Both trails in Mill Valley, and the Boulder Springs Trail in GGOSP, had significant treadwork done and were closed through the winter to allow them to season through their first winter with minimal impacts. They are now open.
We encourage people to go explore the new trails. Candalero Canyon Trail starts at the end of Candalero Avenue, which is off Montezuma Avenue in Forest Knolls. Contour Trail is at the top of Candalero Canyon Trail and can also be accessed from Boulder Springs Trail, which drops down from San Geronimo Ridge Fire Road. Val Vista Trail is accessed of Del Casa Fire Road and Octopus is accessed from Escalon Fire Road, both above Camino Alto Road in Mill Valley.
