Thanks Again to Our Amazing MCBC Volunteers! Perfect Weather for the MCBC Volunteer Appreciation BBQ!
It would be impossible to pull off the MCBC Signature Events, staff rest stops, coordinate bag stuffing marathons for huge rides, distribute flyers and posters to shops throughout Marin without the continued efforts of our amazing MCBC Volunteers!
With new faces showing up every year, and the “old hands” showing them the ropes of Valet Bike parking, passing out food and drink, these awesome folks become a community of their own.
Hitting the weather perfectly on April 1, MCBC staff and board members hosted a Volunteer Appreciation BBQ at Miwok Meadows in China Camp State Park, where we had a chance to say a huge “Thank You!” to more than 75 volunteers. Camaraderie and good riding were the hallmark of this wonderful day filled with big smiles, burgers and cookies from Good Earth in Tam Valley, Chinese Chicken Salad from Comforts, and beer from Lagunitas!
The Volunteer BBQ put everyone in a great mood to kick off the upcoming 2017 events season!
Food and beverages donated by Comforts San Anselmo, Good Earth Tam Valley and Lagunitas Brewing Company.

The MCBC Signature Events, held throughout the year, bring out cyclists in large numbers and it takes hundreds of volunteer hours to produce these great events. In 2016, more than 700 volunteer hours were needed to host Bike to Work Day, MCBC Dirt Fondo, The Jensie Gran Fondo, and Biketoberfest Marin.
In addition to our Signature Events, you can also find our volunteers at events like The Marin Century, trail work days, The Sound Summit and Fairfax Festival just to name a few. Each year, MCBC Volunteers come together to make Nicasio Rest Stop one to remember. This single event tallied 60+ volunteer hours! It’s a long day out in Nicasio, but riders enjoy our smiling volunteers and appreciate all of the hard work that goes into hosting a rest stop. Thanks to all of those who supported the Nicasio Rest Stop in 2016 at the Marin Century.
Bike Parking is another volunteer favorite and we saw over 2900 bikes and raised more than $1800 in donations from our Bike Parking events. Our most successful Bike Parking event was Sound Summit, a three-day music festival atop Mt. Tam. A huge thank you to Bill Kern, our Bike Parking Coordinator, and his many loyal volunteers who “came early, stayed late, worked a second shift, or a third.” Way to go Bike Parking!
MCBC had great success in 2016 with our events and we know this is not possible without our volunteers, sponsors, community partners, staff and board members. A special than you to Marin Velo Club for posting our events in their newsletters!
If you are one of the many in our community to have attended any of these events, you already know how much fun they are; that fun is due to our amazing volunteers!
