news 2018 Off-Road Highlights

Each year, MCBC’s Off-Road Program works to expand mountain biking opportunities through education, environmental stewardship, and trail development. In 2018, following years of advocacy, education, negotiation, and collaboration, the MCBC team helped deliver several plans and improvements that we’re proud of. We also put together a few rides and events that were pretty darn fun, if we say so ourselves. As voted on by MCBC supporters, here are the top highlights from MCBC’s Off-Road Program in 2018:

CALL FOR EXPANDED BIKE ACCESS IN PT. REYES

AZALEA HILL NEARS APPROVAL

HUNT CAMP IS MARIN’S NEWEST BIKE-LEGAL TRAIL

Work on the upper portion of Hunt Camp Trail in Giacomini Open Space Preserve has been completed and is now officially designated and open to people on foot and bike. Hunt Camp joins several other newly-opened bike trails in the Preserve, including Boulder Springs Trail, Contour Trail, and Candalero Trail. Ride Giacomini >>

Another great dirt fondo

Our sold-out 7th Annual MCBC Dirt Fondo was a day to remember! On what was a perfect air-conditioned day, 300 riders tackled adventures of varying distances and returned safe-and-sound (though perhaps a little dusty…) to a delicious BBQ feast! Relive It >>

MORE HIGHLIGHTS

  • 500: Cyclists, hikers, and equestrians who learned how to safely share trails and fire roads through Slow and Say Hello! Outposts.

  • 680 Trail Rebuilt (With Flow!): MCBC volunteers–including high school students–rebuilt the upper portions of 680 Trail to improve drainage, even managing to add some flow in the process.

  • MCBC Takes the Classroom on Two Wheels: We helped lead the Wildflower and Bay, Bikes, and Birds rides, deepening the relationship that Marin cyclists have with our natural habitats.
