Our Work 2019 Road Program Highlights

Each year, MCBC’s Road Program works to make bicycling safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities by improving the safety and connectivity of Marin’s bike routes. In 2019, following years of advocacy, education, negotiation, and collaboration, the MCBC team helped deliver several plans and improvements that we’re proud of. As voted on by MCBC supporters, here are the top highlights from MCBC’s Road Program in 2019:

“Historic” — Richmond-San Rafael Bridge opens to people on foot and bike!

Following decades of advocacy, the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge is open for pedestrians and cyclists for the first time in its 63-year history! Buffered bike lanes on Miller Avenue in Mill Valley made permanent

After two years of public hearings, hundreds of emails and petition signatures, and a lengthy pilot program with traffic studies, we can finally say that Miller Avenue’s one-lane / buffered bike lane configuration in the ‘Parkway’ section of Miller Avenue is here to stay. Read More >>

First phase of pathway connecting downtown San Rafael with Cal Park Hill Tunnel complete–second phase coming in 2020!

In 2015, MCBC nearly filed a lawsuit when it became clear that SMART’s rail extension to Larkspur would move forward without a parallel pathway between downtown San Rafael and Cal Park Hill Tunnel. Four years later, that pathway is halfway complete, with the next phase expected in 2020! Read More >>

Novato-Petaluma connection opens

At long last, the bike improvements associated with the Marin-Sonoma Narrows Project are complete. Caltrans opened a new pathway underneath the US-101 / San Antonio Creek Bridge connecting frontage roads between Novato and Petaluma and establishing what is now the most direct, flat, and safe route available between the two cities!
