Annual Giving August Is “Make A Will” Month
Did you know that August is “National Make a Will Month”? It’s the perfect time to be reminded of the importance of drafting or updating your will to ensure your final wishes are executed as you intended.
At MCBC, we believe that a safe, fun, and accessible future for bicycling in Marin is possible, and thanks to supporters like you we get closer to that future every day. There are many ways to give, and perhaps one that doesn’t get as much attention is planned giving.
What exactly is planned giving?
Simply put, a planned gift is a contribution that is allocated after your passing and is most commonly donated through a will or trust. Sometimes also referred to as legacy gifts, this type of donation helps to create a future you believe in, even after you’ve passed.
For MCBC member and Sausalito PBAC Chair, Aaron Roller, a legacy gift was his way of ensuring the work he’s started continues to benefit future generations.

“Ever since I became an engaged advocate for walkers and bikers of all ages in Sausalito, the Marin County Bicycle Coalition and Safe Routes to Schools of Marin have been my guiding light the entire way. Together we’ve made great strides, but there is so much more to do and so many more barriers to break down to make real measurable progress. Should misfortune take my family from this existence we want to give MCBC the means to continue what we have started … so we named the MCBC the sole benefactor should that day come. Until then, let’s keep fighting the good fight!” – Aaron Roller, Sausalito Resident and PBAC Chair
This August, during “Make a Will Month” consider leaving a legacy and protect the places you love to ride by leaving a gift for Marin County Bicycle Coalition in your estate plans. Contact Liz Bernstein, Director of Giving, or your estate planner to get started.
We advise discussing planned giving with a tax advisor or attorney, to ensure the best financial planning for you and your family.
