MCBC Education & Encouragement Cory’s Ride To Angel Island

Thanks to the generous support of our members and donors like you, the Cory’s Ride program is continuing to have a tremendous impact on youth in Marin. Cory’s Ride mission is to provide the benefits of bicycling to as many Marin students as possible. In particular, to those who might not have the opportunity to ride. We wanted to update you on a few recent happenings that have us pretty excited, including a 25 mile ride to Angel Island.

Cory’s Ride to Angel Island

Last month, our Cory’s Ride students from San Rafael High School told us they wanted to ride to Angel Island. So we made it happen! Many of them had never been to the island, and we wanted their first experience to be memorable. We planned a nice route from San Rafael to Tiburon. And we worked with Angel Island Ferry Company (AIFC) to help us with tickets. Not only did AIFC help us secure a discount with California State Parks, they also put us in contact with the Tiburon Chamber of Commerce, who donated $500 towards the event!

On President’s Day, nine of our students set off with MCBC staff for a 25 mile ride from San Rafael to Tiburon. The students loved the ferry ride, and really enjoyed the beautiful 5 mile loop around the island. Lunch with a view of San Francisco topped off the Angel Island excursion. After ferrying back to the mainland, we encountered a serious head wind on the return trip to San Rafael! Stronger from many months of group rides, they braved the elements and all made it home with a smile. This was the longest any of them had ever done!

CORY’S RIDE AT Sinaloa Middle School

Just last week, we started working with our newest group of Cory’s Ride students from Sinaloa Middle School in Novato! 18 middle schoolers, some who have bikes and some who do not, will be working with us for the next year. We’ve had our first couple meetings with the students, and our inaugural group ride. Stoke level is high!

Again, we truly could not do any of this without our incredible MCBC community and members like you.  From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.  If you are interested in supporting Cory’s Ride and helping it reach even more Marin youth, please feel free to learn more and donate here.

We would like to acknowledge the key people and partners that make Cory’s Ride possible: Tim and Suzanne Leonoudakis for creating Cory’s Ride in memory of their beloved son. Our amazing donors and MCBC members for their support. Cleary Bikes, Backroads, and Mike’s Bikes for helping us out with our equipment needs. It takes a village, and we couldn’t do it without all of your generosity. If you are interested in joining Team Cory’s Ride as a donor, click below.
