Celebrate the Summer off-road riding season by joining the 2016 MCBC Dirt Fondo – the Original epic off-road adventure with route options of 20, 32 and 45 off-road miles.
The ride builds on the “Gran Fondo” ideal – challenging terrain, strong camaraderie and glorious post-ride bbq. It’s a great excuse to ride – whether you want to push hard, go with a group or simply see whether you are up to the challenge. In an effort to get more women on mountain bikes, female riders have the option to join with a group lead by female pro riders and will receive bonus items from women-owned businesses in their goodie bags.
“All-Included” Ride price includes a limited edition t-shirt, support on the route, including fully stocked rest stops, ride leaders and sag, and a bbq feast at the finish. The Dirt Fondo has multiple route options. Even if you don’t choose the full distance, you can enjoy all the perks of this event. Proceeds from this ride benefit the MCBC Off Road program, which has been instrumental in working with land managers to develop trails to support all users – people who hike, ride bikes and horses.
In addition to four new trails opening this year, MCBC Off Road accomplishments and projects include the 680 Multi-use trail connecting Loma Alta and Terra Linda-Sleepy Hollow Preserves which opened in May 2012, the Dias Ridge connector trails between Golden Gate Dairy and Redwood Creek Trail and between Coast View Trail and Dias Phase II; working with the California State Parks to open Bill’s Trail in Samuel P. Taylor State Park to bikes, and being instrumental in long-range planning campaign as Marin County Parks develops its first comprehensive Road and Trail Management Plan (RTMP) to direct future use and management of roads and trails on the Marin County Open Space District’s (MCOSD) 34 preserves, where MCBC has a leading role in the RTMP process.

Details: MCBC Mt Tam Dirt Fondo – Sunday, August 28
Developed from our original 2012 Mt Tam Fondo – This epic route takes riders on a journey across three parks, starting in the Marin Headlands (GGNRA) and traveling north to Mt. Tamalpais (California State Park and MMWD) before returning to the Presidio Riding Club – the stables on Bunker Road.
Riders will enjoy scenic fire roads, including Miwok, Deer Park, Bobcat and Old Rail Road Grade; and some of the best trails in Marin, including Old Springs, Coast View, Dias Ridge and Middle Green Gulch. There is just one route for all riders. But, it is a series of intersecting crossover loops. so you can cover the entire 45-mile challenge or turn back at key locations for shorter ride options. Complete route details will be distributed to participants before the event.
