MCBC Dirt Fondo Recap Sold Out Dirt Fondo Delivers An Epic Day
Last weekend 300 lucky riders enjoyed the epic riding, stellar views and serious challenges of the 2016 MCBC Dirt Fondo. Completely selling out in the days before the event, riders chose from loops of 10, 20 and 32 miles in addition to the full 45-mile route. Enjoying moderate weather and showing great enthusiasm, a wide range of riders took in the amazing views, conquered Mt. Tamalpais and rolled back to the Marin Headlands for a grand BBQ feast.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s ride!
Proceeds from this event benefit the MCBC Off Road program, which has been instrumental in working with land managers to develop trails to support all users – people who hike, ride bikes and horses. If you were unable to attend this year’s Dirt Fondo, you can still make a separate donation to the Off-Road Program through our membership and donations section.
In addition to four new trails opening this year, MCBC Off Road accomplishments and projects include the 680 Multi-use trail connecting Loma Alta and Terra Linda-Sleepy Hollow Preserves which opened in May 2012, the Dias Ridge connector trails between Golden Gate Dairy and Redwood Creek Trail and between Coast View Trail and Dias Phase II; working with the California State Parks to open Bill’s Trail in Samuel P. Taylor State Park to bikes, and being instrumental in long-range planning campaign as Marin County Parks develops its first comprehensive Road and Trail Management Plan (RTMP) to direct future use and management of roads and trails on the Marin County Open Space District’s (MCOSD) 34 preserves, where MCBC has a leading role in the RTMP process.
More information about ongoing projects can be found at the Off Road section of our site.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this the 2016 MCBC Dirt Fondo!
The MCBC Dirt Fondo would not happen without the generous support and contributions from these individuals, businesses and organizations.
