Kick off to Bike Month Super Bicycle Festival in Larkspur This Weekend! May 5-6
Join us this Saturday, May 5th, and Sunday, May 6th, from 9 AM – 4 PM each day The New Wheel’s Larkspur store located at 14 E Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Larkspur – just below the bike/ped bridge connecting with the Cal-Park tunnel. The event is free but please register here.
Kicking off May as Bike-To-Work month, Super Bicycle celebrates all things E-bike – did you know that with more than a quarter million sold last year they outpaced electric cars in sales? It will be two days of food, beverages, family cycling, workshops, speakers, and test drives of the latest E-bike models and categories. Flatten those hills and enhance your bike-riding experience!
Originally inspired by the widespread adoption of battery-powered electric bikes found throughout Europe and Asia, Bay Area natives and recent Berkeley grads Brett Thurber and Karen Wiener began selling e-bikes out of their SF apartment in 2010. Now they own and manage two stores (San Francisco and Marin County ) which sell and maintain more e-bikes than any other retailer in the country.
“E-bikes have been in the news a lot recently” says Wiener, “you can feel the e-bike moment in the Bay Area now coming into its own. What’s not to like about a new way to get around that is fast, efficient, human scale and affordable? We see Super Bicycle as an introduction to a new mode of transportation that will revolutionize your day.”
In fact, CNN sees this as the ‘breakout moment’ for the electric bike in the US—a technology which has already achieved mass adoption in Europe and Asia. In their recent article they note that e-bike sales, up 25% last year, neared 270,000 units in the US.
Super Bicycle weekend this Saturday and Sunday May 5/6 (register here) is aimed at all kinds of riders, especially those looking to ride more with additional comfort, control, ease and excitement. “With so much local and national interest and excitement about the e-bike,” says Thurber. “We felt that there was a need for an event that allowed people to experience e-bike technology in a real-world setting, with a full range of high-quality, reliable and affordable electric bikes. Technology and style have gotten so much better, you can customize and optimize for comfort based on what you want out of it.”
