news Tires & Tails Workshop AND TRAIL WORK in Mill Valley on October 1

This Saturday, October 1, Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Horse Hill Stables and Marin County Open Space District will be partnering on a day of education and stewardship in the Camino Alto Open Space Preserve in Mill Valley.

From 8:30 – 10:30 AM, we will be putting the finishing touches on a new multi-use connector trail and decommissioning redundant social trails near Octopus Junction. From 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM, MCBC and Horse Hill Stables will present a Tires and Trails Workshop at the Octopus Junction.

UPDATE: Trail work volunteers needed! If you’ve already participated in a Tires and Tails workshop, please come out and help prepare TWO NEW TRAILS for a Fall opening. One crew will work on the new Octopus Junction connector and while another will do handwork on the Val Vista Trail. Both trails will be open to bikes when they offically open later this Fall.

val_vista_trailParticipants will learn:

  • Horse psychology – how horses see and react to approaching objects
  • How to safely pass a horse
  • Lessons on basic trail etiquette
  • History of land conservation and resource protection

As well as enjoying:

  • Saddle time on a horse
  • Interactive bike/horse exercises on the trail

ATTENTION STUDENTS: This workshop is good for 4 hours of community service! Also, please download waivers, have your parents fill them out and bring them with you the morning of the event.
