It's finally here! Thursday, May 11th is Bike to Work Day 2017
Bike to Work Day is now upon us! As you know, May is National Bike Month and Thursday, May 11, is the Bay Area’s 23rd Annual Bike to Work Day. Riders will roll out en masse to celebrate a car-free commute, experiencing the joys and benefits of bicycling to work, school, and for local errands.
We’ve already told you to check that chain, pump up those tires, let your office mates know that your bike will be next to your desk that day… so you should be ready to ride! Here are a couple last-minute reminders:
Find Your Energizer Station
Energizer stations will be set up throughout Marin; there will be Energizer Super Stations hosted by MCBC staff and volunteers. Stations are open from 6:30-9:00 AM (Vista Point 5:30 to 9:00 AM) for participants to grab a quick bite.
You can be a part of this – either by using your bike (or even your feet) or by volunteering to support your fellow riders. You can also download the 2017 Bike to Work Day poster for your office or work place.
Meet Heidi Rosevear – Marin’s Bike Commuter of the Year for 2017
Congratulations to the 2017 Bike Commuter of the Year – Heidi Rosevear
Sorting through the nominations, one thing that tipped the vote in Heidi’s favor was the very real impact of her choice to ride – one less car on the roads. By simply deciding to use her bike, she stepped away from the line of cars crawling through southern Marin. Her route may not be excessively long, but it highlights how simple it is to use established pathways to arrive at work refreshed and ready. Read her whole story here.
Take Part in the Team Bike Challenge and Company Bike Challenge
Team Bike Challenge registration opened April 1st. The Challenge begins Monday, May 1, and runs through Wednesday, May 31. To be a part of this morale-increasing event, simply recruit anywhere from one to five friends and form a team. Then, simply pedal to work, errands, or school. Your team will earn points for each day any team member rides. Team members do not have to ride together. The team with the most points at the end of the month wins a grand prize and more! You could still enter today!
