MCBC’s Road Program works to make bicycling safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities by improving the safety and connectivity of Marin’s bike routes. For 2019, we’ve put together an exciting and diverse list of projects, ranging from near-term fixes to efforts that will require several years of advocacy.
For the last 20 years, MCBC has been laser-focused on delivering projects that make bicycling safe and convenient. Infrastructure improvements–like Cal Park Hill Tunnel or Miller Avenue in Mill Valley–don’t just happen. They follow years of thoughtful planning and mobilizing our community of bike believers.
Entire city blocks will be reconfigured as part of the upcoming Transit Center relocation project, but proposed plans are sorely lacking in needed bike improvements, including a long-planned North-South Greenway connection. In a huge win for MCBC and anyone who walks and bikes in Marin, San Rafael’s City Council recently adopted a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan highlighted by our vision for a safe, connected bike network that aims to make bicycling an option for people of all ages and abilities.
Thanks in large part to MCBC’s involvement, the City of San Rafael is set to adopt a plan that lays the foundation for a safe, connected bike network comprised of pathways, protected bike lanes, and traffic-calmed bike boulevards.
Acknowledging that state highways serve as a major barrier to walking and bicycling, Caltrans recently released a plan to improve bicycling along and across highways in the Bay Area with several priority projects in Marin that would improve the safety and convenience of bicycling.
