At present, to ride or walk between southern and central Marin requires climbing over 200′ and several miles of out-of-direction travel. By reopening the tunnel and connecting multi-use paths on both sides, bike travel would be shortened by 10-15 minutes, and walking would be reduced by 45 minutes to an hour. Unlike the existing route, which requires riding or walking on busy, steep roads, the tunnel would be ADA-compliant as well as completely safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
