The bridges will remove recreation from the San Anselmo Creek channel and allow trail users to lighten their impact on the environment by keeping foot, bike, and horse traffic out of the creek bed. This will improve visitors’ experiences and add accessibility for all trail users, as well as improve the sustainability of the trail by limiting erosion.
New recreational bridges will allow trail users to safely cross during wet weather without entering San Anselmo Creek and will enable the removal of the erosive High Water Trail. These changes will improve water quality and habitat by reducing fine sediment that harms rainbow and steelhead trout spawning, while also enhancing visitor safety. The creek is also home to state-listed Foothill yellow-legged frogs, and land managers, scientists, and volunteers are working together to support this vulnerable species.
